Safe Scouting in a Pandemic

It may mean some changes to where and how we meet, but scouts are committed to staying safe, following local health guidelines, and continuing the scouting program.

These scouts are preparing jokes, the funniest way to practice speaking in front of others.

Still Having Fun

Fortunately for several of our scouts, archery can be done in groups of less than 50, in a safe and socially distanced outdoor environment.  We may not be able to have full pack events at the moment, but we find ways to have fun.

Awards Night!

 Well, actually awards afternoon...

We couldn't meet in person last spring to award our scouts their ranks so this spring we met outside for a socially distanced awards night.

Great job to all scouts for completing their requirements and earning their badges!

New Scouting Year Begins!

Do you know the Rule of Thumb to protect wildlife while exploring nature?  When you see an animal, hold your hand out at arms length and stick out your thumb.  If you can cover the animal completely, you are a safe distance away.  If you can't, you are too close.  Even in the rain today, we found some animals to practice the Rule of Thumb on.

While scouting during a pandemic can be challenging, with the right safety measures in place it can be fun.  Cub Scouts wear masks, meet out doors, and do their best to practice social distancing while getting in the first hike of the new scout year.

Summer Scouting

Out of an abundance of caution and under the guidance of local public health organizations, in person scouting events were cancelled this summer.  But that doesn't stop scouts from earning achievements with their families.

  • We couldn't get together for a full pack bike ride, but scouts did review proper bike safety with their families go for a ride to earn their belt loop.
  • Fishing is always a fun summer time activity.  Scouts and their families hit the lakes as part of the Cub Scout Summertime Pack Award.

Safety is Important Part of Scouting

Safety is a big part of the scouting program, and internet safety is no small part of it.  Every year Cub Scouts have to review age appropriate internet safety rules to reinforce safe behavior online.

Congratulations on Earning the Arrow of Light!

Arrow of Light is the highest rank available in Cub Scouts.  It is one of the only Cub Scout badges that can be worn on the Boy Scout uniform.  Congratulations to all Pack 451 scouts who completed the requirements and earned this rank.  We wish them good luck as they start leave Cub Scouts and start their journey toward Eagle Scout in the troop of their choice.

Winter Camp is the Best

This year's winter campout had everything!  Snow (that's less common than you would think), sledding, an out door treasure hunt, lantern making craft, board games, Jeopardy Scout Edition, heated sleeping areas, and more.  We had it all and made the most of it.

Service Project at Bernie's Book Bank

Today we had over 40 people come to Bernie's Book Bank to help sort and pack books for children that need them.  Everyone deserves the chance to practice reading with their very own books.  Pack 451 is happy to be able to help.  Follow the link below and see how you can get involved.
