Living the Scout Oath: To help others at all times

December is a great time to do community service projects.  Pack 451 chose to pack food at Feed My Starving Children.  We had over 7 volunteers take time from their busy holiday schedules and help pack food for people in need.  Thanks everybody!

Thank You Marines!

Pack 451 is proud to participate in the Marine Corps Toys-for-Tots program.  We sent the Marine volunteers home with three big boxes full of toys to distribute and a certificate thanking them for their service to our country.

While they were there, the Marines were kind enough to perform a uniform inspection.  Thankfully, all Cub Scouts passed.

Survived the Rain for the Fall Campout

Who says you can't have fun in the rain?

Pack 451 got out our boots, rain coats, and ponchos and had a good time at the fall campout at Camp Oh-Da-Ko-Ta.

This year we are learning to live by the Leave No Trace principle by reducing the amount of disposable plates and cups we consume during camp. Scouts were encouraged to bring a mess kit with reusable dishes which they then learned to wash after meals. Believe it or not, there was an actual argument about who would GET to wash the dishes at camp. We will see if this excitement carries over from camp to doing the dishes back home.

Special thanks to the staff at Camp Oh-Da-Ko-Ta for monitoring the weather and keeping us informed as well as providing contingency plans in case severe weather hit.

Pack 451 Takes on the Hike Lake County Challenge

Scouts who like to hike started the Hike Lake County Challenge today. (https://www.lcfpd.org/hlc-2019/)

Enjoy fall breezes and autumn colors while exploring designated Hike Lake County trails. Complete just seven of the hikes between August 15 and November 30, and Scouts earn a prize.  Scouts who complete the challenge the first year will earn a hiking stick and commemorative shield.  Scouts returning to the challenge for a consecutive year will earn an additional shield for their hiking stick.

Many hikes are under 2 miles which should take about 1 hour to complete.

Rocket Launch Success!

Everybody had a great time at the 2019 rocket launch.  Between the remote control cars, the Angry Birds catapults, and the rockets themselves, there was plenty to do.  It was a little windy today so some of the scouts had a little further to run to collect their rockets after launch.
Special thanks to the Boy Scouts who turned up to get some leadership experience while serving as our launch officers keeping everyone safe during the event.

Scout Day at Miller Park

We had good luck with the weather for Scout Day at Miller Park.  Scouts got the chance to be on the field before the game and cheer the Brewers to victory!  Even the Cubs fans among us had a good time.
